Local Forage

  • Eating is one of our most primal and sensual acts. And eating what's good for you doesn't mean depriving yourself of gastronomic delight. Local Forage explores why traditional foods—the real, unprocessed, whole-fat foods of our grandparents—delivers the winning combination of maximum health and maximum taste.

Local Forage provides an exchange of practical information on where to buy these nutrient-dense traditional foods in the bay area, how to prepare them and how to think "beyond organic".

Alert: Organic Indian Restaurant

Roti Roti Indian Bistro is an Indian restaurant focusing on local and organic ingredients. I heard about it on one of my lists. What a concept — an organic Indian joint. But it's not a joint; it's far more high-end. I went to a movie the other night at the West Portal theater and strolled by it. It's loungey and moderne.

There are two locations:

San Francisco
53 West Portal Avenue
(415) 665-ROTI (7684)

Burlingame
209 Park Road (just off Burlingame Ave.)
(650) 340-ROTI (7684)

Very exciting, but is the meat organic? I couldn't tell from their menu.

Tablehopper, one of my favorite restaurant blogs, has a review of the West Portal location. She says the vegetables are organic but no word on the meat. I emailed the management so we'll see what they say.
