Local Forage

  • Eating is one of our most primal and sensual acts. And eating what's good for you doesn't mean depriving yourself of gastronomic delight. Local Forage explores why traditional foods—the real, unprocessed, whole-fat foods of our grandparents—delivers the winning combination of maximum health and maximum taste.

Local Forage provides an exchange of practical information on where to buy these nutrient-dense traditional foods in the bay area, how to prepare them and how to think "beyond organic".

12 Steps to Good Dookie

Dookie As mentioned in today's Good Question, I will share with you, below, my 12 Steps to Good Dookie. This list only includes mostly food-related items. There are other things I consume for Good Dookie that are not food-related, like probiotics, but I'm trying to stick with the theme of the blog - food. I will attempt to write a separate post each day to elaborate on each of the 12 steps.

  1. Drink plenty of water, especially warm water
  2. Bulk up with fiber
  3. Take essential fats: flax, borage, or fish oil
  4. Add more fruits and vegetables
  5. Exercise daily or, at minimum, 3 times/week for 30 minutes.
  6. Replace sugar with natural sweeteners and use in moderation.
  7. Replace breakfast cereals with eggs, kefir, yogurt, or soaked oatmeal
  8. Replace pasteurized dairy products with raw and cultured dairy.
  9. Eliminate or reduce refined starches and processed food.
  10. Replace regular vinegar with apple cider vinegar.
  11. Eat more apples
  12. Eat fermented foods
